Taste and judge chili from area restaurants at the 18th Annual Chili Cookoff, Saturday February 11, at Winona Middle School from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Only $7 for all-you-can-eat chili, both spicy and mild. Proceeds benefit Ready Set School. Entertainment provided throughout the event.

17th annual Hallowinona tournament fundraises for WSU Frisbee team
Characters from the video game Super Smash Bros. dodge and dip to catch a gliding Frisbee out of mid-air. On the sideline a Luigi character shouts at his teammates in a fake Italian accent, while a team full of Where’s Waldo characters wait for burgers to get off the grill in the pavilion.

I am busy, busy, busy preparing for Randy Roberts Potts to visit Minnesota and specifically Winona on Monday. I cleaned up a prior blog post and turned it into an OpEd. for our local paper.
Every word rings true for me and my hope, as always, is to give people food for thought.

I don't usually post about food since others do that much better than I ever could, but these gluten-free blackberry scones are (well, were...) worth a few words...
I used to make everything from scratch (strange phrase) -- no mixes, no ready-to-eat, no processed foodstuffs (except Kraft macaroni & cheese), no shortcuts... But between being gluten sensitive, working full-time, and trying to develop my artistic practice I've sort of let go of...

Dad's Belgian Waffle Breakfast - All you can eat. Dad's delicious malted 9-inch Belgian waffles with cloices of eight different kinds of syrups and toppings plus link sausages, O.J. milk, and coffee. CARRY OUTS ARE AVAILABLE.

This July world famous Spanish (Catalonian, actually) chef Ferran Adria is going to close El Bulli -- considered by some to be the best restaurant in the world. If he can do that, then I can stop blogging on Cook Out of the Box. Which is what I am going to do. After today.
