The sight of an eager college student filling out the forms to get his/her first tattoo at Tatu Royale in downtown Winona, Minn., is as common as the rock music that blares out of the parlor’s sound system. However, that same college student donating blood a year later when he/she is eligible is a sight that has become too uncommon.  Recently, a law has gone into effect to encourage just such behavior.

The lovable characters portrayed in the classic tale of Midwestern rivalry "Grumpy Old Men" and "Grumpier Old Men" remain favorites to many, and the spirit continues at the city's annual Grumpy Old Men Festival commemmorating its claim to fame.

In a town with too many churches to count, it’s not hard to drive past one and picture the colorful stained glass, the even rows of pews, the church community visiting inside. The interior of the church at Franklin and Fifth Street in Winona, though, paints a much different picture.
