Rushford City Council gives go-ahead for new community center and 22-unit hotel, hoping to boost the town's tourism draw
After weeks of negotiation, Rushford City Council members finalized plans for a new community center and a motel Nov. 23, unanimously.
The city’s portion of the community center’s cost will be $593,382, all of which is provided through the Federal Emergency Management Agency from the August 2007 flood.

Leonid Meteor Shower peaks Nov. 17 to rave reviews by locals
Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009 marked the anniversary of the Leonid Meteor Shower. At 15:10 universal time, the meteor shower hit its peak and did not let viewers down.

Domestic and sexual violence is addressed in the first of many community forums and events for awareness
In Minnesota alone, $8 billion was been spent on sexual violence in the year of 2005. This was three times the amount spent on drunk driving.
“If we could save that $8 billion, our state would not be in debt right now,” said Lynn Theurer, Winona County Community Health Services Administrator.

City of Winona offers no-sort/no-fee recycling to residents
In the distant future, consumers conscious of the environment could simply throw all of their recyclable plastics, glass and paper into one bin and let some robotic genius sort it for them.
Welcome to the future.
The city of Winona now participates in no-sort curbside recycling, allowing residents to use purple bins from the city which are given to participants free of cost. The pickup is also at no charge.
