The Winona-Misato Friendship Association, whose members include current and past Student Ambassadors, their families and staff or community members who have traveled to Misato, are helping to organize a city/area wide benefit for the town of Misato in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan.

E-mail communications this morning from Toyo University in Tokyo and Akita International University in northwestern Japan indicate all exchange students at both universities are safe
Three female Winona State University students currently studying abroad in Japan have been reported safe. E-mail communications this morning from Toyo University in Tokyo and Akita International University in northwestern Japan indicate all exchange students at both universities are safe, and university facilities were not damaged by the earthquakes or tsunami.

Aside from classroom learning and sightseeing, students will gain a practical knowledge of how to live in Tokyo
This summer, Winona State University students will have the opportunity to go beyond campus, Minnesota and even the U.S. to experience Japan first-hand.  On May 16, a group of students, along with WSU global studies professor Matthew Strecher, will fly to Tokyo, Japan. An informational meeting about being an ambassador to Misato, Japan will be held Monday, August 30 at 7 p.m. in the middle school auditorium.
