This is sad to me because looking back I have been the one who has always taken my education for granted. School is just something that came with life. As a kid, you are bused off to some place and year after year you improve a grade level but I never thought of it as a privilege to be able to have this opportunity. Even in college, I always figured that this is what came next. I guess it never really hit me that not everyone went to college until senior year in high school when some of my friends were not going that route. However, I do agree with one of the earlier posts that said, " Maybe the students who come from poor backgrounds have less of a drive because they have been told they can't." I know if you keep getting told "you can't, you can't, you can't" someday you're going to believe it. Maybe we need a support system within the schools that help students find goals within in educational process and give them encouragement. I think something needs to be done though to help unprivileged children get the most out of what should be a right to them.
